Cardoso,J da C; Paula,MB de; Fernandes,A; Santos,E dos; Almeida,MAB de; Fonseca,DF da; Sallum,MAM.
This is the first record of Culex (Culex) brethesi (Dyar) in Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. The species was identified from specimens collected in a sand bar vegetation with the aid of a Nasci's trap, during an expedition for surveillance of the West Nile Virus in July of 2006, in the city of Mostardas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Identification of Zika virus in immature phases of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus: a surveillance strategy for outbreak anticipation BJMBR
Maniero,V.C.; Rangel,P.S.C.; Coelho,L.M.C.; Silva,C.S.B.; Aguiar,R.S.; Lamas,C.C.; Cardozo,S.V..
A progressive increase in the circulation of arboviruses in tropical countries has been observed, accounting for 700,000 yearly deaths in the world. The main objective of this article was to identify the presence of Zika (ZIKV), dengue (DENV), and Chikungunya (CHIKV) viruses in immature stages of Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus. Household collections of immature phases of the vectors were carried out in the years 2015 and 2016. A total of 2902 dwellings were visited and the rate of infestation with larvae and pupae of Aedes mosquitoes was 283/1462 (19.4%) in March 2015 and 55/1440 (3.8%) in June 2015. In March 2015, 907 larvae/pupae were collected (583 or 64.3% of Ae. aegypti and 324 or 35.7% of Ae. albopictus) while in June 2015 there was a reduction in...

LÍNEA CELULAR DE Aedes aegypti (DIPTERA: CULICIDAE) AEGY28 REFRACTARIA A LA INFECCIÓN CON LOS VIRUS DENGUE 2 Y FIEBRE AMARILLA Acta biol.Colomb.
CASTAÑEDA,NADIA Y; CASTELLANOS,JAIME E; ZAPATA,ANGELA C; BELLO,FELIO.

Viruses vector control proposal: genus Aedes emphasis BJID
Reis,Nelson Nogueira; Silva,Alcino Lázaro da; Reis,Elma Pereira Guedes; Silva,Flávia Chaves e; Reis,Igor Guedes Nogueira.
Abstract The dengue fever is a major public health problem in the world. In Brazil, in 2015, there were 1,534,932 cases, being 20,320 cases of severe form, and 811 deaths related to this disease. The distribution of Aedes aegypti, the vector, is extensive. Recently, Zika and Chikungunya viruses had arisen, sharing the same vector as dengue and became a huge public health issue. Without specific treatment, it is urgently required as an effective vector control. This article is focused on reviewing vector control strategies, their effectiveness, viability and economical impact. Among all, the Sterile Insect Technique is highlighted as the best option to be adopted in Brazil, once it is largely effectively used in the USA and Mexico for plagues related to...

Yellow fever in Africa and the Americas: a historical and epidemiological perspective J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Chippaux,Jean-Philippe; Chippaux,Alain.
Abstract Yellow fever was transported during the slave trade in the 15th and 16th centuries from Africa to the Americas where the virus encountered favorable ecological conditions that allowed creation of a sustainable sylvatic cycle. Despite effective vector control and immunization programs for nearly a century, yellow fever epidemics reemerged in many Latin American countries, particularly Brazil. The emergence or reemergence of vector-borne diseases encompasses many intricate factors. Yellow fever outbreaks occur if at least three conditions are fulfilled: the introduction of the virus into a non-immune human community, presence of competent and anthropophilic vectors and insufficiency of prevention and/or adequate management of the growing outbreak....
